The Avocado
By STREAT
This checklist, developed by STREAT's STREATwise team, helps people build, run or strengthen a Work Integration Social Enterprise (WISE). It offers a simple self-rating tool to map how a WISE is tracking across key areas, drawn from questions STREAT itself faced when starting out.

This checklist, known as the Avocado, was developed by STREAT's STREATwise team to help people design, build or strengthen a Work Integration Social Enterprise (WISE). It grew out of the founders' own experience: when starting STREAT, they couldn't find a guide covering the practical questions they faced, so they wrote their own and kept building on it.
The tool covers five questions per section on a five-point rating scale, which can be plotted onto a visual chart to highlight areas needing attention. It spans three levels: individuals within a WISE, the organisation itself, and how WISEs collaborate as a wider system. It's designed to be used at any stage, whether starting up or already established, and STREAT treats it as an evolving, work-in-progress resource.
It's useful for anyone starting, running or supporting a Work Integration Social Enterprise wanting a practical way to check progress and spot gaps.
