Who we are
SquareBySquare makes rainforest protection tangible, accessible and personal. Our platform connects people with specific places in nature and a growing community working to protect them.
We are led by Henk Kleynhans, founder, and Emely Junker, co-founder and COO. Henk previously founded Skyrove, a South African social enterprise that let anyone share their broadband with their neighbours and earn an income. Emely graduated from Europe’s prestigious WHU and is also pursuing an M.Res. degree at UTS on ethics in business.
Our values are curiosity, compassion, creativity and openness. We are building a financially sustainable business that helps local conservation organisations care for important habitats. As of 14 September 2026, SquareBySquare has 2,063 Protectors across 43 countries, supporting the protection of 9,844 square metres of rainforest.

What we do
People can protect or gift a Square of rainforest, name it, find it on our public map and receive a personalised certificate. Each Square links their support to a real, GPS-defined square metre of conservation land.
Our first project is at Djarawong, near Mission Beach in Queensland, working with the Community for Coastal and Cassowary Conservation (C4). C4 holds the land and manages it for conservation. Contributions help fund conservation and stewardship, alongside the platform and outreach that bring more people into the community.
