Our Community Development Framework – a First Nations Approach

This guide provides:

• A clear model for community-led development centred on First Nations cultures and worldviews.
• Practical steps for planning, decision making and learning within communities.
• Tools for aligning programs with local priorities and long-term wellbeing.
• Guidance on respectful partnerships between First Nations communities and organisations.
• An approach to Understanding, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (UMEL) that supports shared reflection and innovation.

The framework helps viewers rethink how impact is defined and measured. It emphasises relational, ethical and process-based governance rather than profit-centred methods. Overall, the guide offers practical resources for communities and practitioners who want to create change on community terms.
