At Worthy Cause, we believe in creating opportunities for individuals who have faced significant hardships and marginalisation. Established in 2021 by Rick Cohen, our organisation is rooted in a commitment to social impact through culinary excellence. Rick's personal journey, marked by overcoming challenges such as PTSD and depression, inspired the foundation of Worthy Cause. His experiences highlighted the transformative power of supportive employment, leading to the creation of a program that offers more than just jobs—it offers hope and a future.
Our team comprises dedicated professionals and volunteers who share a passion for social change. We operate with the conviction that everyone deserves respect and the chance to improve their lives, regardless of past adversities. By fostering an inclusive and supportive environment, we aim to break down barriers to employment and equip our participants with the tools they need to succeed.
What we do
Worthy Cause is a social enterprise bakery that creates handmade cookies with purpose. Through the act of baking, we provide a supportive employment program for people facing disadvantage.
Our program offers:
- Paid, hands-on training in baking and packaging.
- Financial literacy support.
- Informal mentoring and confidence building.
- Access to professional counselling.
Participants gain meaningful experience, community connection, and the skills they need to transition into ongoing employment.
We fund this impact by selling our cookies through:
- Online retail.
- Corporate gifting and event packages.
- Team-building workshops for businesses.
Every cookie sold supports someone on their journey to greater independence and opportunity.
