Who we are
The Big Issue Australia was established in 1996 with a mission is to provide a solution for people living on the margins to lift them out of poverty. This is achieved by providing low barrier employment opportunities, giving people a sense of pride, dignity and belonging in the community. The Big Issue is governed by a long standing board of directors and overseen by CEO Steven Persson who has led the organisation since 2004.
What we do
We run social enterprises to create work opportunities for people who are unable to access mainstream work. These include The Big Issue magazine, the Women’s Workforce and The Big Issue Classroom, as well as the Community Street Soccer Program.
