Who we are
Established in 2013, Social Engine is a certified Social Traders not-for-profit social enterprise.
As a unique and multi-faceted social enterprise, our focus is offering diverse employment opportunities to ‘at-risk’ young people aged 18-25 years old. This includes three types of businesses:
- Warehousing
The warehouse located in South Dandenong offers warehousing, basic production, packing and distribution. The focus of the program includes supporting refugees and young people. The facility caters to a range of industries and clients. Economic Pathways to Refugee Integration partnership program operates from the warehouse. - Hospitality canteens
Social Engine also operates four canteens located at infrastructure projects and at Swinburne Tafes. These sites train vulnerable youth in hospitality, catering, barista and retail. - A street-based outreach service
The ‘Street Law Coffee Van’ that is a street-based outreach service in Frankston, using a coffee van as the focal point that operates in partnership Peninsula Community Legal Centre (PCLC).
Our aim is for these young people to transition through Social Engine workplaces and emerge having gained life skills, confidence and independence to ensure a better future for themselves.
To achieve our mission, Social Engine is partnering with several key not-for-profit organisations and community-minded corporate partners.
Mark Watt AM is the co-founder and managing director.
What we do
- Social Engine logistics and warehousing - Social Engine logistics provides comprehensive services, operating from a 6500 sqm ISO9001 accredited warehouse in Dandenong South. We specialise in the intricate, fiddly batch jobs that larger co-packers and warehousing companies avoid.
- Hospitality - Social Engine kitchen is the heart of our hospitality enterprise, serving tailored kiosk and catering services across Melbourne. Our ‘Brunch Time’ UberEats service brings delicious food and beverages right to your doorstep.
- Catering - Our mission is simple: to provide quality service, delicious food, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Whether it’s a corporate gathering, a community event, or a workplace function, we’ve got you covered. We cater to all your needs, leaving you free to enjoy your event.
- Site services - In collaboration with our supply partners, we provide a wide range of Australia Standard approved workwear, personal protective equipment (PPE), and food and beverage vending machines to building and construction sites. These social procurement contracts allow industry leaders to join us in creating real job opportunities for vulnerable youth.
