Who we are
Kenshi Candles is a social enterprise dedicated to providing food for people in need. It donates a minimum of 50% of its profits to fund pasta for people experiencing food insecurity in Australia and globally. Its scented soy candles are handmade in Melbourne by refugees from Myanmar, and each 400g candle or 240ml diffuser sold on the website directly funds 2kg of pasta, purchased and donated to grassroots food charities across Australia.
Kenshi Candles began after founder Liam took part in a school volunteering trip to FareShare, a charity kitchen in Melbourne. He was 14 at the time, and the experience convinced him that something needed to be done about the growing problem of hunger and food insecurity affecting thousands of Australians every day. The idea was simple: people already spend hundreds of dollars on candles each year, so why not use that spending to help fund food and tackle hunger in Australia for good?
Transparency has been central to Kenshi Candles from the start. Rather than donating a percentage of profit, the business donates a set amount of pasta per candle, so customers can see exactly what impact their purchase makes. Because the donation is pasta rather than money, it goes directly to grassroots food charities with no middleman taking a cut.
What we do
Kenshi Candles sells scented soy candles and diffusers directly to individual customers through its online store, with each purchase funding a set amount of pasta for people facing food insecurity.
The business also supplies candles and diffusers at wholesale pricing for a range of purposes:
- Retail stores: gift shops, hair salons, florists and other retailers can stock Kenshi products and fund food with every sale
- Corporate gifts: candles can be personalised with a custom label featuring a business's logo and an optional message, making them a gift for employees, clients or prospects
- Fundraising: registered charities, schools and individuals can use Kenshi Candles to raise funds for their own cause
- Weddings and events: wholesale pricing is available for weddings, fundraisers, birthdays and other special events
