Who we are
Mission
Good Cycles' mission is to create safe and meaningful jobs for young people, jobs that break down barriers to employment, nurture the community and the planet, and build good cycles of change. It creates these jobs through innovation, and aims to show how social enterprise can play a key role in a sustainable future.
Purpose
Good Cycles creates safe and inclusive job opportunities for young people who have experienced barriers to employment. This includes young people who:
- Come from marginalised backgrounds and live in marginalised areas
- Have pre-existing long-term health conditions
- Are not currently in employment, education or training
- Have been unemployed long-term
Youth Employment Program
The Youth Employment Program uses a work-first approach, offering jobs to people aged 18 to 28 with real income and regular shifts, alongside tailored coaching and support. Its 'learn by doing' approach gives young people personal choice within an inclusive workplace, building technical and transferable skills so they can see a brighter future for themselves and take part in work that delivers positive change for their communities.
Through this program, Good Cycles creates:
- Meaningful jobs with a range of pathways
- Green jobs of the future
- Jobs that help make communities cleaner, safer and healthier
Since 2013, Good Cycles has provided employment and training pathways to more than 750 young people.
What we do
Good Cycles began with a couple of bikes, and has since grown into four commercial divisions. Alongside its retail bike shops, Good Cycles partners with forward-thinking businesses to deliver services that support communities. Together, these partnerships create employment opportunities for people in need while helping businesses meet their social procurement targets (a commitment by a business or government to buy goods and services from organisations, such as social enterprises, that create social value).
- Good Bikes: specialised bikes for sale at various locations and online
- Good Spaces: gardening jobs for young people who love the outdoors, focused on horticulture and asset management, using a fleet of industrial grounds maintenance and utility equipment, including slashers, mowers, edgers, spray units and litter collection vehicles
- Good Deliveries: an inner-city logistics service that puts people and the planet first, using e-cargo bikes to handle parcel deliveries, catering deliveries, waste collection, wholesale deliveries and reverse logistics
- Good People: a managed workforce partnership offering recruitment and ongoing human resources management, blending general staffing with young people supported through the Youth Employment Program, along with people management expertise, workplace culture support, flexibility and impact reporting
