Who we are
Five Bucks exists to make giving accessible, hopeful, and educational. Five Bucks was founded by impact expert Brianna Kerr and is a Named Fund of Australian Communities Foundation.
The idea for Five Bucks was sparked from learning about the decade long decline in the number of Australians giving to charity. Interested in why this was happening and the implications it was having, Five Bucks set out to understand how peers were giving. 159 survey responses revealed that young people both wanted to and could give more but were overcome by financial constraints, cynicism and distraction.
So we wondered: what if we all just chipped in Five Bucks a week?
Is Five Bucks a charity?
Five Bucks is not itself a charity but a Named Fund at Australian Communities Foundation. The most common way to describe what we are doing is ‘collective giving’. Australian Communities Foundation is an Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) registered organisation that helps to build and strengthen communities through charitable giving. With more than 25 years of experience in catalysing positive social and environmental change, Australian Communities Foundation makes philanthropy easy and accessible for people from all walks of life, all over Australia.
What we do
It's simple: Five Bucks is a giving community where each member chips in $5.00 AUD per week throughout the year to a pool that then funds organisations tackling issues across climate, education and living standards. Between January and June - Five Bucks leads a process to decide which organisations will receive funding from the annual pool.
