WA Social Enterprise Council (WASEC): Starting up to succeed

A peer learning community supporting micro social enterprises in Western Australia to build knowledge, confidence and connection - focusing on early-stage ventures, marginalised leaders, and regionally-based enterprises.

About the learning community

This learning community will support micro social enterprises in Western Australia by helping them build the knowledge, connections, and confidence they need to succeed. The group will focus on the unique challenges and opportunities faced by early-stage and small-scale social enterprises, particularly those:

  • Led by or working with marginalised communities.
  • Operating in regional and remote areas.

The community will:

  • Encourage peer learning, practical knowledge exchange, and sector connection.
  • Cover key topics such as governance, funding, impact measurement, team building, and working with vulnerable groups.

About the convenor

The WA Social Enterprise Council (WASEC) is the peak body for social enterprises in Western Australia. WASEC supports a growing network of purpose-led businesses that create social, cultural, environmental, and economic impact. Led by social impact leaders, WASEC works to connect, advocate for, and build the capacity of social enterprises across the state.

How will this learning community work?

The learning community will operate over 12 months, with six online sessions spread across this period. These sessions will focus on high-demand and practical topics relevant to micro social enterprises, including:

  • Funding
  • Governance
  • Impact measurement
  • Leading from lived experience

Each session will be interactive and peer-led, allowing participants to engage with each other and learn from shared experiences. Resources and key learnings from the sessions will be captured and shared with the group. In addition, the community will collaborate to create helpful learning resources that can be used to support social enterprises in their growth and impact.

How to get involved
