Humanize Media: Governance our way
This learning community will be building a toolkit that brings together Aboriginal Elders, community and practitioners to explore how Aboriginal Terms of Reference can transform governance, leadership and enterprise.
About the learning community
The purpose is to bridge Aboriginal governance principles and social enterprise models, demonstrating how values of relationality, custodianship, reciprocity, and collective wellbeing can redefine what impact means in business. It will examine how Aboriginal approaches to governance align with and strengthen the social enterprise sector, challenging profit-centred frameworks and advancing accountability to people, Country, and community.
This learning community aims to generate shared insights and practice resources that:
- Build capability and confidence within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander enterprises.
- Inform the growth of an Australian social enterprise ecosystem that is culturally grounded, regenerative, and relational.
- Contribute to global conversations about ethical, inclusive, and Country-centred business leadership.

Humanize Media is a 100% Aboriginal-owned and operated creative and consulting agency based in South East QLD, founded and led by Dr Gaala Watson. Grounded in Aboriginal Terms of Reference, Humanize Media works at the intersection of culture, governance, and design, supporting organisations and communities to tell their stories, strengthen relationships, and embed cultural integrity into practice. The organisation’s work spans art, visual storytelling, publishing, communications, and strategic consultancy, with a focus on community-led, values-based approaches to impact and change.
How will this learning community work?
It will bring together 4 - 5 Aboriginal Elders, Community members, and practitioners, with selected collaborators from the social enterprise and impact sectors to help inform the toolkit. Guided by three learning modules exploring:
- What governance looks like when built on Aboriginal Terms of Reference (Relational, Metaphysical, Ethical, Process).
- Alignment between Aboriginal governance and impact business models.
- Relationality to people and Country over profit.
